82年製作、83年日米公開。まだヒップホップがニューヨーク、ブロンクス地区だけで盛り上がっていた時代に、この映画がラップ、DJ、ブレイクダンス、そしてグラフィティ、、、ヒップホップ・カルチャーを世界に知らしめた。つまりこの映画がなかったら今のヒップホップはなかったかもしれない。それほどこの映画はヒップホップの歴史的重要作品だ。

出演も全て当時現役だったDJ、ラッパー、ダンサー、ライターだった。グランドマスター・フラッシュ、グランド・ウィザード・セオドア、D.St。グランド・マスター・カズ、コールド・クラッシュ・ブラザーズ、チーフ・ロッカー・ビジー・ビー、ダブル・トラブル、ファンタスティック・フリークス、ラメルジーやBボーイのチャンピオンたるロック・ステディ・クルー。ゾロ、フェイド、レディ・バッグなど。
